Non-Alcoholic Julep

One cup sugar
One cup water
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup grapefruit juice
1 cup orange juice
1 quart ginger ale, chilled

Place water and sugar in saucepan and stir over low heat until a syrup is made. Allow to cool completely. Add nutmeg and fruit juices to syrup While mixture continues to cool, fill four tall glasses with ice cubes. Add 1/2 cup of mixture to each glass. Fill glasses to the top with cold ginger ale. Garnish with mint sprigs. A refreshing summer drink, especially after a long day on the battlefield.

Corn Pudding

4 eggs
1 can (14 ounces) creamed corn
1 cup milk
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon sugar
salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Crack eggs in a large bowl and beat slightly. Add creamed corn, flour, sugar, and milk. Stir until well blended and there are no lumps in the batter. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste. Pour into a greased square or round pan. Bake for one hour in preheated oven. Test for doneness by inserting toothpick in the middle. Edges will be brown. A very old recipe.
