July has arrived in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; and it is an anniversary month for those of us at The Gettysburg Experience as well as for this historic town. To celebrate and commemorate, we offer several articles that we hope will be as interesting for you as they were for us. Going back to the beginning of the nation, we learned that Pennsylvania played a large role in the signing of the Declaration of Independence -- in fact, the future Keystone State had more signers than any other of the 13 original colonies. Read about our nine signers. And, just one hundred years ago, a New Jersey woman passed through Pennsylvania making history herself. Learn what happened during "The Summer of 1909."
Years ago, while working as a guide at Gettysburg National Park, I was amazed at the sheer number of casualties during the historic battle in 1863 -- and began noticing the excessive number of general officers who were wounded, killed, or missing. I began to count them up, and came up with 32 generals who were casualties in the Battle of Gettysburg. The result is the longest article ever written in our magazine: "Fallen Stars." And, in remembrance of the equally historic 50th reunion at Gettysburg in 1913, we offer the brief "A Georgia Veteran at Gettysburg" -- a short tale with an amazing twist.
We also offer our Calendar of Events, our Recipes, and for those who wish to attend the annual Gettysburg 146th Reenactment.
As we celebrate our 12th anniversary of publication in Gettysburg, we at The Experience want to thank you, our readers, and our many advertisers who have made our longevity possible.
Thank you for choosing The Gettysburg Experience, proud to be an integral part of what our mayor calls "The Most Famous Small Town in the World" -- and he's right.
