As June arrives in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with the promise of summer just around the corner, we at The Gettysburg Experience bring you another issue of interesting articles, delicious recipes, and the listing of many events that are coming to town for the summer. Our Calendar of Events is larger than ever and filled with family friendly and educational happenings for the last of spring and beginning of summer.
In honor of Father's Day, we offer the story "A Father's Quest" -- the story of Caleb Gordon and his relentless struggle to bring home his lost son.
Since June is a popular month for weddings, we thought it would be interesting to learn about some of the "Presidential Partnerships" -- describing the marriages of a few of our Presidents and First Ladies. Because there have been too many to write about in one article, we picked six couples, and all of the Presidents mentioned have visited Gettysburg.
New Jersey native Enrica D'Alessandro offers some interesting insights into some of the men from The Garden State who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. Read about "The New Jersey Brigade" and their unusual commander, beginning on page 81. And, we bring a short piece about Gettysburg's youngest general, and an intriguing, little-known talent that he had.
We hope that in reading this magazine that you notice the many fine advertisements within these pages. Without our advertisers this publication would not be possible, as we receive no other funding. We frequent their businesses ourselves and heartily recommend them to you. An Advertiser's Directory is found on page 98 to facilitate finding any of our advertisers.
Thank you for choosing The Gettysburg Experience, proud to be part of historic Gettysburg since 1997.
